Your stay at the Best Western Hotel Quartier Latin will place you in a prime position to participate in one or more of the exhibitions and trade fairs that the city of Paris hosts in the late summer and autumn. These are designed for professionals in various industries and also for the general public. Let’s take a look at some of the most popular.
Trade shows with as rich as varied themes
Bijorhca is an international fair dedicated to fine fashion jewellery and watches, presenting 500 designers from around the world. It takes place at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre from September 4th to 7th and is where the latest trends are revealed. At around the same time, but taking place at Paris Nord Villepinte, is Maison & Objet, a show featuring the diversity of contemporary living, including design, decoration, furniture, tableware, textiles, fragrances and more. You might also want to look out for the Salon du Mariage, a superb wedding fair at Carrousel du Louvre; FIAC, the international contemporary art show at the Grand Palais; the Salon du Chocolat, surely the most mouth-wateringly tempting trade show of all, and much more.
Many events take place at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre, located in the 15th arrondissement, a venue which is easy and convenient to reach from the BW Hotel Quartier Latin.
The Fête de la Gastronomie, local events
Beside the various fairs mentioned above, another summer attraction that shows Paris in her very best light is the Fête de la Gastronomie (French haute cuisine celebration). This important festival will take place this year on September 25th to 27th. Since 2011 this three day celebration of all that is best about the French love of food has taken the entire nation by storm. When UNESCO included the French culinary tradition on its World Heritage listings, the nation was inspired to set aside some time each year to promote French produce and gastronomy and the festival has gone from strength to strength.
What can you expect at the Fête de la Gastronomie? Well, top chefs take to the streets with their equipment, ready to whip up wonderful dishes before your eyes, which you can then taste. There are markets burgeoning with local produce, cut-price restaurant menus, cooking workshops, exhibitions, recipe ideas and all the warm camaraderie fostered by a love of the joys of food.
In 2014, more than 280,000 professionals participated in the Fête de la Gastronomie and the event was supported by approximately 1,800,000 visitors. The number of participants is predicted to be even greater in 2015, increasing the choice available, so if you have an interest in fine food and the culinary arts, you simply cannot miss it!
