Great Exhibitions at the Cinémathèque Française

The team at the Hotel Best Western Quartier Latin would like
to wish you all the best for 2016.

The team here at the Hotel Best Western Quartier Latin recommend that you enjoy a film fan’s dream start to the new year by visiting the Cinémathèque Française, place where cinema films are preserved and showed, home of one of the world’s largest collections of movie related artefacts.

Here, until February 14th, you can discover an exhibition dealing with the legendary film director Martin Scorsese, and another inviting you, until June 23rd, to dive behind the scenes of 12 highly regarded movies.

Discover the private collection of Martin Scorsese

The items on display in the Martin Scorsese exhibition at the Cinémathèque Française, motion-picture theater and museum, are drawn from the American director’s own private collection, as well as those of Robert de Niro and Paul Schrader. The exhibition presents the working methods of the cinematic genius behind Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas, his sources of inspiration, and the influence he has exerted on American cinema from an aesthetic, narrative and intellectual perspective.

This is the largest exhibition ever to deal with the work of Scorsese. Besides being able to discover (or rediscover) the remarkable cinematic achievements of this passionate cinephile and movie colossus, you will also become totally immersed in his professional world via posters, storyboards, costumes, props and various other artefacts. This is a great way for all movie buffs to understand Scorsese’s work and to reflect on the themes so dear to him, including family, religion and siblings.

Immerse yourself in the making of 12 emblematic films

The Cinémathèque Française is also presenting an exhibition-tribute to screenwriting, an element that is essential to the production of films of any kind.

At a time when the digital revolution implies an evolution of all professions in the film industry, the role of the screenwriter remains one of the most important for the success of a film, along with that of the director, producer and cinematographer.

The exhibition presents the development of a profession that is relatively little known yet completely essential, through a selection of posters, photographs and other archival material, as well as the personal testimonies of screenwriters and directors. Visitors are invited behind the scenes of 12 cult films of the past 50 years, including Jean-Luc Godard’s Alphaville, Roman Polanski's The Pianist, Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor, Patrice Leconte's Ridicule and Jacques Rivette’s Joan the Maiden.

The exhibition forms a tribute to the discreet collaborative role that Alain Resnais regarded as "the backbone of a film."

Enjoy these two prestigious exhibitions when you stay at the Best Western Quartier Latin. Located in the heart of the capital, close to the Pantheon and the Jardin du Luxembourg, the hotel offers tastefully decorated rooms, renovated in 2014 and benefiting from all the modern comforts. You’ll be warmly welcomed right in the heart of Paris in a delightful and comfortable hotel. What better way to start 2016 in style?
