Paris celebrates contemporary art

During the months of March and April, Paris plays host to two major events of the contemporary art scene. The capital welcomes the Art Paris Art Fair from March 31st to April 3rd 2016, neatly overlapping with PAD Paris, which takes place from March 29th to April 3rd 2016. These events are aimed at art lovers, but are also accessible for those who are simply curious about exploring what is happening in art today. Enter a creative universe.

Art Paris Art Fair: a major contemporary art event

The Grand Palais will be the beautiful venue, from March 31st to April 3rd, 2016, for the Art Paris Art Fair. This event brings together 143 galleries from 20 different countries throughout the world. The generous display area of 6500 m2 offers plenty of room for the varied and surprising collections being presented by both well-known and up and coming artists. The event invites visitors to discover contemporary art in all its forms, all together in one location.  Last year, over 55,700 people came to this unique fair, and this is your opportunity to find out why it’s so popular.

The Art Paris Art Fair is becoming increasingly international in scope and this year, for the first time, the event will host art galleries from Colombia, Azerbaijan and Iran. For this 2016 edition, the organisers chose South Korea to be the national guest of honour and will showcase the artistic wealth of this country. In addition to enjoying the work on display, this event allows you to spend a few hours in one of the capital’s most famous buildings, the Grand Palais, whose Beaux-Arts façade will be used for the screening of digital projections in conjunction with the Art Paris Art Fair.

PAD is at the heart of decorative arts and design

Another unmissable spring event for art enthusiasts is the PAD Paris, which will be held from March 29th to April 3rd 2016 at the Jardin des Tuileries. For twenty years this event has been an essential showcase for design and the decorative arts. The main objective of the occasion is to bring together in one place a rich and dynamic collection of modern art, primitive art, jewellery and historic and contemporary design works of the 20th and 21st centuries. Each year artists, art aficionados, collectors, galleries, dealers and other participants flock to this superb show from France, Switzerland, Japan, China the UK and elsewhere, thereby illustrating the sheer cultural diversity inherent in PAD Paris and underlining its self-proclaimed mission to promote eclecticism.

To make the most of these two art events, we strongly advise a stay at the Hotel BW Quartier Latin. Located in the heart of the 5th arrondissement, our excellent establishment welcomes guests in a warm and modern setting, offering everything you need to ensure a pleasant stay in Paris, including easy access to these two major art events.
